Lethargic Liverpool surrender points against battling WBA
A disappointing performance from Liverpool against lowly West Bromwich Albion saw the champions emerge with one point when three were a prerequisite, which would have put them five points clear at the top of the table. The Reds started off in their usual confident style and were rewarded with an early goal from Sadio Mané. It seemed as if this would be an easy afternoon for Liverpool, with a hatful of goals on offer. But the Reds took their foot off the gas, refused to force the issue and went into half time, completely dominant but without having put the game to bed. As the second half progressed, and Liverpool struggled to create chances and West Bromwich looked increasingly comfortable in defence and more threatening up front, Liverpool grew anxious, aimlessly chipping the ball into the opposition box, where West Brom's centre backs dealt with any threat, instead of working down the sides of the pitch and bringing their lethal full backs, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold, into play. Mohammed Salah had a particularly frustrating afternoon, making wrong choices, losing the ball and trying for the spectacular when the easier option would have been more effective.
